A traditional Japanese space created with a wooden pillar-beam structure is partitioned by removable light sliding doors such as Shoji and Fusuma, made by paper-covered wooden frames. The “Katsura Rikyu”, the detached Imperial Palace in Kyoto, is the ultimate Japanese architecture made with such wood and paper partitions. “KATSURA” is a bathroom furniture series inspired by the minimal and essential beauty of this “Katsura Imperial Villa” and incorporating the image of a door made of wood and paper into a modern bathroom.
